Chelsea wait on Conor Gallagher decision after accepting £34m bid from Atletico Madrid

Transfer notebook: Midfielder must make decision on future after rejecting second contract offer, while Summervile is close to West Ham move

Chelsea have accepted a bid from Atletico Madrid for England midfielder Conor Gallagher, who has turned down another offer of a new contract at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea are now waiting for Gallagher to make a decision on his future, with Atletico ready to pay around £34 million for the 24-year-old.
Gallagher has one year remaining on his current deal and is understood to have rejected two offers of a new contract this summer. The latest of those was a three-year deal (two years plus the option of a third) that would have put him in line with the highest earners in the Chelsea midfield.
Gallagher’s future has been uncertain for some time, with Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United previously showing interest and Aston Villa also attempting to sign him earlier this summer.
Villa are understood to have had a bid for Gallagher accepted by Chelsea earlier in the transfer window, before the player decided against moving to Villa Park. Villa have since signed midfielder Amadou Onana from Everton in a £50 million deal.
The sale of Gallagher, a product of the Chelsea academy, would represent pure profit for the club and would aid them in their attempts to both balance the books and invest further in the squad this summer.
Gallagher may yet decide to leave Chelsea on a free transfer next summer, however, and would not be short of offers after establishing himself in recent seasons as one of the Premier League’s most energetic and reliable midfield players.
Gallagher has not been part of Chelsea’s tour of the United States because of his long run at the European Championship with England, but is set to begin his pre-season in the coming days.
Chelsea beat Club America 3-0 in their latest friendly in the early hours of Thursday morning (UK time), with Christopher Nkunku, Marc Guiu and Noni Madueke scoring their goals.
West Ham United are closing in on the signing of Crysencio Summerville from Leeds United, with talks understood to now be at an advanced stage.
Summerville was named last season’s Championship player of the year after a thrilling campaign in which he scored 21 goals in all competitions.
West Ham have been looking to strengthen in wide positions and have also shown interest this summer in Arsenal forward Reiss Nelson.
Summerville is now the priority target, however, with a deal worth in the region of £25 million edging closer.
West Ham are also working on deals for Borussia Dortmund forward Niclas Füllkrug and Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
